I am looking for interior color K4 mix formula,

I own a body shop!!!  K4 comes up as sunfire orange poly (2135), It has metallic in it, I cannot see any metallic in my original panels, still troubled..

I did post this question in the restoration forum.

Any ideas?

Mr Cuda

The 2135 is exterior color, and the back page mistakenly shows it used on the roof rail.
This is how B bodies were done, but ebodies had low gloss or suede everywhere inside.
So you need ddl 60557, which might be tough with the low availibilty of laquer.
There is no metallic in the interior, to my knowledge, or if there is, the flatting obsures it.
The 60557 would be the color to use on door panels.
Not listed because not the original use for finishing them.

Mr. Cuda,

Thank you for quick response and info.

I believe 60557 is the suede color which is correct for my dash frame.  I may have to go ahead and mix 2135 just to see.

Sunfire orange poly, is poly metallic?

This is what got me. That color shows metallic in the formula and I dont see it on original parts.

I will check into it more tomorrow,  I appreciate your input!  Report back tomorrow.

Mr Cuda

2135 is k5 dark burnt orange exterior color.
 I don't know how you got a k4 attached to 2135.

On the Plymouth side there's also a 60572 listed under the Belvedere-Satellite low gloss section, might be worth a look.

When my brother did his "Bayou Green" 1970 interior for his Challenger he ordered paint from TCP Global -

It was a few years ago but he got a green suede from them that looks great on the dash and etc.

I believe they also were able to mix up a batch of SEM vinyl dye to match the bayou green color for his door & kick panels.

I will look some more, I miss stuff all the time, I blame it on my eyesight and old age.  :)

What I don't see is a color listed as K4, I was picking one from the interior color selection.

on edit: This may / may not help.

I know with Chrysler's color codes the darker the shade the higher the number, B7 is darker than B5 which is darker than B3 blue as an example. So then (F)K5 is darker than K4. That said I don't believe there is any one particular code to be found for what makes up a K4 interior, only the paints listed above (right or wrong) on those factory sheets for the various metal pieces of the interior. On anything vinyl or plastic the color was molded in, not sprayed on. Most colored interiors appear to be a few shades of the same color depending on the part and supplier. And on top of that, I know that the colored interior pieces in particular were more prone to discoloring over time compared to black, some of my brother's green parts sure did. I have heard of people taking an undisturbed piece, say the inside of a kick panel not exposed to sunlight, and bringing it to a shop that could pull a color match on a computer and then from that mixing up a vinyl dye to match as closely as possible. Even then you'd probably want two or three different shades to really duplicate everything exactly.

I don't know how original this interior is but a few different shades can be seen-

And this is a pic I had saved of that white Challenger with blue interior that the late Dave Walden from ECS restored, probably quite a few of these pieces are nice originals or NOS, not sure but again some different shades can be seen. It all depends on how far down the rabbit hole you want to go I suppose.

Mr Cuda

I was reading your car thread for context.
Your tag, and K4. Yes a burnt orange interior might have the code K4, but with plastic not designed to be painted, they had no color code in the interior finish section.
Using the 1970 B body interior as a comparison, they had gloss, low gloss, and suede.
In 71, barracuda interior color dropped to low gloss only. All those 1970 gloss trim in a challenger references to 2135 on roof rail is a mistake. I've never seen any gloss inside an E body.
My suggestion is a hand tint interior paint, add flatting to preference.
I've painted plenty of 64-69 interiors that have a mix of 3-4 colors and glosses. A fresh interior is stunning.

Got it, no formula for K4.

So I  sprayed some rattle can of OER burnt orange onto a test panel and scanned it.  That color is a little darker but pretty transparent. 4-5 coats to cover. That part sucks and I do not know if it is an actual vinyl formula meaning the resin.

I did some test samples and should have it today.

Can't wait to see some sprayed comparison's.

Update,
I think I am close as I need to be. I ended up taking camera reading on backside of kick panel.  I made 3 variations. Too red so I made another 4oz batch without the red. Too light so I made another 4oz batch without the white and it looks pretty good.

Another Pic, kick panel was painted along with door panels and 1/4 trim  and pretty sure I chose k5 or a guessed at it.
