I am having my 71s front hood molding restored and it's almost done.  My friend restoring it painted the blackout but is not sure how to position the black tape repro I'd provided him.  He says it isn't wide enough to fill the entire recessed area on the front of the molding.
I looked online and can't find any good pictures, anyone have a car with the black tape installed to show its location?
My molding had the tape but it was getting pretty worn out, which is what led to deciding to restore the molding as the anodization was getting long on the tooth also (mission creep!).
We didn't think to photograph the old tape before removing it.  :headbang:

I have an NOS one still in the wrapper. I'll slide it out and get a photo.

Does this help? The black tape covers the entire bottom lip the screws go through.

That should help, thanks!
I don't have the molding here, it is with the person restoring it for me.  I'll forward the pix!
My molding is the lesser seen version that installs with screws on the bottom of the front of the hood as opposed to the studs through the front of the hood that you install nuts on.
I can't tell if that's the style molding you have in the pictures?

I installed an NOS piece on the Challenger I just finished, but sorry no up close photos...

It installs with screws through the bottom lip . No studs.

I had two NOS ones. I removed the black tape from the one and installed it on my 71 convertible. I believe my car came originally with the molding without the lip on it. It installed on clips along front edge of hood if I'm remembering correctly - back 48 years ago. What hood front edge molding originally came on 71 Challenger convertibles?

My Sep 70 built 71 R/T came with the style molding that mounts through the front.  Here's a pic of the molding that came on the car when I first owned it  (circa 1982-83).  Odd that there wasn't any paint.  Current pics of the molding on the restored car.

That's exactly how the NOS one I installed looked. Clipped on from the front.

@Floyd. That is the molding I remember being on my December built 71 but without the black stripe. Thank you.

@JH27N0B. Here's the bottom lip of the molding. I also just found I have an NOS molding like @Floyd shows without the black stripe. I need to get my parts organized.
