My car was recently painted at a shop with PPG Deltron base and clear. I have a few other parts that I would like to paint in my garage and was wondering what type of reducer to use? Does it need to be a urethane reducer or can I use a common paint thinner.  I know the PPG instructions always recommend using their products but how critical is it? I believe the shop said to reduce the base using 1:1 ratio but I forgot to ask him what type of reducer was acceptable.

I always use the reducer recommended by the basecoat instructions. That way, I don't have to worry about a bad mixture. Paint costs too much to screw up.

Don't use anything but urethane reducer!!!  :alan2cents: It comes in different temperature rates.

Agree, use only the correct reducer.

AND, Google the name and line of the paint and bring up it's TDS (technical data sheets) and they'll tell you info regarding reduction, application and drying rates. All stuff that's good to know when you're painting!

Here's the sheet. Pick a reducer according to the temperature also.
