this may be a dumb question but i am in the process of replacing the floor and under rear seat pan. i am wanting to make the tubs wider while i'm in there. my question is can i cut the outer top flange off the rear frame rail to gain an extra inch and if so what is the best way to reinforce the frame rail. thanks for the help

You could make what we used to call a fish plate that mimics the contour of the side of the rail and weld it into the existing, to give extra support when you cut off the flange.
In the immortal words of Jimmy Scott- "pace yourself!"

Thanks, that's what I was thinking but wanted to make sure

Wouldn't you also want/need to relocate the spring perches and use off set shackles?

:wrenching: You should check US Car Tool out of NC they have wheel well widening kit and spring perch relocation kits. Would add the hyper link but not tech savy.

It does look a lot better with the wheel well tub up against the frame rail. Your back seat wont fit . Also the side panels will have to be butchered to fit poorly. I'm now stuck re tubing the car or modifying the seat frames and upholstery.

I already have the spring relocation kit from us tool.
Thanks guys
