Hood Spring Direction

I was planning to install the hinge spring to the hinge.  Which direction does the spring that faces the front of the car go? It's either going to curl up or down for both left and right side.  I've seen pics of different cars that vary on both sides.

I was going to guess down from the top

The springs will only go on one way. It is the back end of the spring near the fire wall that determines  if front is up or down.
