Has anyone seen a true 1970 plum crazy color and compared it to a 201x plum crazy?  Is it darker, lighter, more metallic?

Thanks. I've seen plenty of pics and as you know depending on the lighting, camera, angle, trueness of the color etc it can appear to look different.  I was more looking of an opinion from someone who has seen the two colors in person.

The newer colour is way nicer, deeper, richer more sort of pearl.....great looking....I've dove three factory FC7 cars that colour and most people love it and don't really notice the difference until you park next to an original FC7 painted car.

I did a custom mix on my Car when I painted it & we made a sample so when I stripped my car I compared it to the hidden paint on my car that had never faded & IT matched but the mixes used today from any supplier I could find did not match my original paint

Here's some spray out tests of the original FC7 color.

Left to Right in the photos:

(Left) Original 1970 DQE Enamel
(Center) Solvent base coat-clear coat
(Right) Water based.

They all flop completely different.  The original is not as bright as most people think.  The Water Based is the least pleasing to the eye in person.  Most people will like the base / clear solvent based, but it's not a perfect match.

Sorry, I to not have any spray out tests from the newer version.

Thank you @Cuda Cody, there is a huge difference when you lay them side-by-side.  I agree the base coat-clear coat is the best of the three.

I have found that the computer monitors & even worse printing ink in magazines is nowhere close to the actual color in person

Cody,

Do you maybe have the sample for Glasurit? Over here in Croatia I can easily get Glasurit, but PPG not so much. Therefore, I am looking to use Glasurit (code AY2FC7).

Any idea how it will turn out when done? I'm flying blind here.  :stop:

It really doesn't matter what brand of paint you use as long as you stick with the quality lines and do test spray outs.  I've not used Glasurit, but I've heard a lot of good things about it.  Just have your painter do a few test spray outs on the exact primer color with the exact number of coats you plan to use.  Then you'll know if you like and how close it is to the original.

Just put in code, year etc. and it comes right up, pick paint line for formula.

That's what I did, I have the code, but I am not 100% certain how it will turn out.

To be honest, I'm not aiming for 100% period correct color tone so it will surely look great, but I'm always wondering if it can look better...

Only way to know is like Cody did - a spray out test and match to a known good sample.

I agree. The only problem is that in Central Europe finding a true-colored plum crazy Mopar is like trying to find a snowball in hell. :-D
