Racing Mirror screw color?

I have dual painted racing mirrors on my 1970 Challenger. I am replacing the screws that hold the mirrors to the door and am not sure if the screws should be painted or not. I've seen both painted screws and chrome screws on painted mirrors.

Just from a logistical standpoint at the factory I would assume the screws were chrome but I don't know for sure.  Interesting question.  My guess is the mirrors were pre-painted at the manufacture and shipped to the factory already in paint.  If the screws were painted, they would have had to ship the pre-painted screws with the mirror.  It would be easier to just have a bin full of chrome screws that got used on every mirror.
