Where do you get your fasteners?

I've misplaced a couple screws and bolts over the years and was curious where the guys who build multiple cars get there nuts, bolts and other fasteners. The bolt kits can be $30 bucks or so which is high if you only need one or two from this kit of that kit. Buying single bolts on ebay cuts it down, but spending $4 plus shipping and handling is crazy. I guess the best bet is to wait to a swap meet then load up.

In particular what would be a cost effective place to get the SEMS (Fender, valance, grill, etc) bolts? I can get a couple from the local hardware store, but they don't have a few sizes and not all are dog point.

Just curious

My local NAPA has a grate selection of auto body hardware. In stock or not far away.  :alan2cents:

If @MoparDave from Roseville doesn't have them, he'll know who does. I always go to him first. He's the main support of this site.

First though when I looked at your pictures was..... he sure doesn't live in Ontario! Bolts look like new, not all rusty!

I do several things that works well for me:

First I keep buckets of hardware sorted into nuts, bolts, screws and other odd fasteners like u nuts. All separated and I don't mix in hardware store stuff. This saves my bacon lots of times when I just need a couple things and don't want a whole kit. Having to wait 5 days for one little piece of hardware to get shipped to you sucks.

Second, when I see Mopar stuff at the right price, I don't ponder if I need it, I just grab it. A 15 pound bucket of Mopar fastener stuff at the swap meet for $10 is money well spent. You see the stuff on eBay too but it's a little more hit and miss since it likely includes different makes. eBay sellers will bundle them in groups that will fit into flat rate shipping boxes so you only pay a small amount of shipping for a heavy bundle.

Third, whenever I dismantle stuff or get a new project with loose hardware under the seats, loose in the doors or in the bottom of the trunk, add it to your buckets. You'll be surprised at the handfuls of hardware loose in an average project car that doesn't even belong to that car.

Lastly, I pick up bulk fasteners off of eBay now and then and the prices are really cheap. You can buy bulk U nuts for attaching fenders, fender bolts, chrome oval head screws in every size for the interior. All these things match the original stuff perfectly if you make good selections. A bag of 50 or 100 of something is quite inexpensive and sometimes includes free shipping.

I will note though that some things are a bit more unique so I don't mind buying the special packs as needed. I just can't afford to do it for everything on the car. And some things, like exhaust manifold mounting hardware gets eaten fast by corrosion so I generally just buy new kits for stuff like that. You can spend a lot of time and money being too cheap.
