It appears I need to replace the intake gasket on my '71 340 Challenger.  Do I need to pull the AC compressor?  Looks like I can't reach the coolant hoses or front intake bolts with it in place.  The AC hoses go in opposite directions so I don't think I have enough hose slack to hang the compressor out of the way. Is there a DIY way to evac the system?

I don't know what the a/c laws are in NJ. But the best way is to go to an A/C shop and have it done with the correct equipment. otherwise you need a machine to evacuate and store the refrigerant. Nothing like that is not a professional grade (read $$$) available for public use. Not legal to vent refrigerant to the atmosphere.

Been awhile since I worked on mine, but if you have rubber hoses on the compressor, that may be just enough to unbolt the compressor and hang from a stand or even the hood with a prop stick. You should only need an inch or two for access to the intake bolts. I am away from my car or i could give you some additional info. Good luck!
