I was just looking at the July 1990 issue of Chrysler Power magazine about Shaker Challengers and Cudas. It mentions in the article that there is no part number for the 1971 Shaker cars under hood decal listed. I can state for a fact that my car did not have the under hood decal in 1972 when I bought it. There was no evidence of one ever being stuck on. I've added one but it has always been in my mind that it didn't have one. Thoughts? I've attached a copy of the page from Chrysler Power.   See the line about half way down Decal, "SHAKER". Part number 2998817. The 71 Cuda and Challenger columns are blank.

I guess my next question is, has anyone seen an unrestored Shaker E-body and did it have the decal? The Shaker seal tends to rub the paint or decal over time like a fine sandpaper. In 1972, my car had the seal wear pattern all the way around in the paint. Since I've installed the SHAKER decal, it has the wear pattern in it as well as the surrounding paint and if I remove the decal the paint isn't worn underneath. That's what made me think it came from the plant without the decal. Since there is no part number for 1971, it's possible it wasn't put on that year. Any other part that seems to carry over from one year to the next seems to have it's own part number for each year. Am I correct in this?

I've seen two original paint 71 shaker hoods in my travels over the years that didn't have it, but the greater majority do have it.
But then, I also had this original paint 70 hood since it was removed in 1973 from an original 383 shaker Cuda in an Albany, NY yard.
It was easy to tell that it never had the decal applied from new.
Just another Mopar abnormality in my opinion.

New member here, saw this post:  I read an article about 6 or so years ago about stickers under the hood written by a man that worked on the line back in the day.
Sorry I cant find it, but I remember the man saying basically Q/A wasnt like it is today.  Basically some cars didnt have all the stickers that they should have.  Why?  If they were short a decal, SHAKER included, and they were not available on the assembly line when it came down, it just wasnt placed on the vehicle.  The thought was to get the car to a dealer showroom and get it sold, so holding the car until a decal was available wasnt an option.

I remember the man saying that in 70, many plant workers thought that mother Mopar was almost done due to ins rates and poor sales, one reason less than 19K 1971 Barracudas were made  (Not sure how many 71 challengers were made.

Remember also, 71 was the last year of the shaker option as well.  Maybe running out of that particular decal was not a concern for the plant at that point in 1970?
