Have found a really original survivor 70 Challenger R/T 440 4 speed car in exactly the right colour ( Plum Crazy with a white tail stripe ) and with many of the options that back in the day I would have chosen, had I have been lucky enough to have been in my local Dodge dealers, this car has an AM/FM with a 3 speaker dash, power disc brakes, manual windows and  a white interior, I suppose the white is far less oppressive than an all black interior!

However, what is the 4 speed and 4.10 Dana combo like on the high way ? Guessing it's very under geared and that whoever ticked these options, wanted a stop light Grand Prix car ?

It would be a rumbling, vibrating mess at 75-80mph turning a 440 at 4000rpm for any length of time.

Yes: You would want to swap in a set of 3.54 or maybe add a Gear Vendors.

Depends really on how often you are actually planning on driving over 60 mph.  If not very often why change it?

If you plan on road tripping all summer to events 500 miles away then you'd want to gear differently.

Honestly even my 3:23 isn't good for long road trips, I don't drive 80 for long without wishing I had overdrive, and will with a future 5 or 6 speed tremec.

My '71 V code has 4:10 gears and the times I drove it on the highway were really a labor of love!
For most of where I've driven it, 15 miles or less to cruises, it is great fun. But highway is no fun at all, in the neighborhood of 4000 rpm driving in the low 60 mph range.
Since I wasn't able to sell it, someday when I have garage space to keep it at home, I want to put OD in it because otherwise my car starts up instantly and runs great, if it ran at a decent rpm at highway speed I'd drive it for hours with no apprehension at all!

Plum Crazy with a white butt stripe and a white interior is pretty much the top of the heap. Awesome.  :banana:

Several years ago now, I'm driving out from NJ to Carlisle on the PA Turnpike, cruising along at around 75mph, and I look in my rearview and see a Challenger approaching. Cool! And then I realize this guy is MOVING! And soon enough, approaching me and passing, and I'm like, DAMN! look at this guy go - it turns out to be 'CraigRTSE' from moparts with his 440-4 R/T SE 4-speed car, with overdrive. He had to be doing 85-90 easy. What an impression that made on me to see that car going down the highway that fast, like nothing. So yeah, get the overdrive!

 A big back tire will help highway driving. Belted try an L60X15, radials 275R60X15.
The 3.54 gear would also work great with those tires.

I used to drive my Barrelcuda with 4:10's and F70X14's  :o  Later put L60X15's on it and it made a world of a difference.

@3.0CSL  Here's a video of a restoration/rebuild of a similar Challenger R/T to what you have found   :)   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DEa8JVA-KIs

@EV2RTSE The video of the restoration for CraigRTSE's Challenger R/T SE is my all time favorite. 1:28 - 1:45 is just gold lol :takemymoney: :bigmoney:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qACNIBfhe0E

My matching numbers '70 'Cuda has a 440, 4-speed and dana 60 with a 4:10.  As others have stated, great for around town driving but torture on the freeway/highway even with 275R60X15s.  Last year I had the 4:10 changed to Dr. Diff custom 3:23 gears.  What a difference.  Not overdrive by any means, but I can now easily cruise on the freeway at 65 to 70 without winding up my engine. (FYI) for the haters out there, the 4:10s are in storage in case I or a future owner want to change back.
