Disassemble Round Tail-lights

Hi, looking for insight on how to remove the lens without breaking it or the housing?  Experimented on one of my 72-74 tail light units and seemed like both the tabs on the lens and the slots on the housing wanted to break.  Anyone found a trick for this?  I'm wanting to insert LED halo rings so need to find a way to take apart and reassemble.  Much obliged!

A little heat gun action let's those tabs move over. I wouldn't try it at room temp, they're pretty old/brittle

Thanks for tips guys.  I looked at digitails too, seems like a good option for brightness but I am going for the "halo" type outline.
