Hi gang getting back on the 70  I was looking at the fuel door trim ring and wonder it there is a gasket that I can get for it ,so I don't scratch the new paint!
also how far do the tips need to stick out past the top of the rear valance? dam body shop was suppose to document all this stuff  for me since I and putting it back together .But never did . along with a bunch of other stuff I an having to go over! :(

Early aftermarket quarter panels had a really bad stamping in that area...if that's the case, you may never get the trim ring to fit nice.
I've taught you everything you know....but I haven't taught you everything I know....

I can't help you with your problem but I'd like to compliment you on what little I see there. Looks like you're going all out on this one. :bradsthumb:

This is one of my 70s and as far as I can tell, the exhaust looks all original underneath.

so about 2-3 inches from the top of the valance?

I don't have another photo handy but the spacing from the exhaust tip to the valance is pretty much equal to the sides from what I remember...like 1/2" or so. I thought you were simply looking for the distance they stick out from the back.

yea I need the info before I cut the pipes one is about 2-1/2 thee other is 5 right now

That tip extension looks good. I like to place a strip of 1" masking tape around the edge of the tips and then install them with just the tape showing beyond the valance. There is another thread on here talking about how far the tips should extend. Kind of a personal choice.

As far as the fuel filler trim ring...Mine didn't fit very good and instead of using a homemade gasket, I filled the trim piece with plumbers putty. After tightening, just easily cleaned off the excess and it looks good to me.

I'll try to take a measurement for you tonight
