Does the 70 sending unit need a ground strap like the B bodys?

The fuel gauge  sender must be  grounded to work. The straps are cheap, give a positive ground  and readily available.

They all came with one originally.  They don't really need one when everything is new though.  The sending unit is grounded to the gas tank with the lock ring.  The tank is grounded through the tank straps.  Once the car starts rusting(when they were used as daily transportation) the tank, straps and body connection gets week and probably goes away.  That's when the straps take over.

When I first got my car done I didn't have a ground strap on it.  I had purchased a short strap but needed a long one.  My fuel gauge still worked because the sending unit was grounded through the tank's lock ring.

Thanks, I'll pick up the 8" one to be safe. Also wouldn't you know it I have 2 different sending units both for b  bodys and neither will work good thing I stuck my scope in the tank and could clearly see the tube and float was nowhere near the bottom.  :unbelievable:

New sending unit ordered now as well, found a nice stainless steel one on ebay.

" Once the car starts rusting(when they were used as daily transportation) " LOL! That'd be the day after it rolled off the delivery transport!  The man's right, but I couldn't resist. Sorry  :Stirring:

Good luck with that...I have 2 of those and your gauge will not read correctly...they are cheap enough... you get what you pay for :alan2cents:
