How to get rid of light rust stains inside my trunk

Hi guys decided to take the old trunk mat out of my car and ran across this. Looks like some water got into my convertible and caused this. The trunk pan is original and solid. I think it might just be light surface rust or rust stains. Any diy tips for getting it out.

I'd start with a cupped wire wheel on an angle grinder to get the scale off of the trunk floor. 

What color is your car?  It looks like the trunk is black but the body is green.  If the car is green, now would be the time to paint the trunk the correct color.

Find a good liquid rust remover and a red scotchbrite pad and scrub it down until it's clean. It will etch the metal so don't get it on any good paint. Rust away by Captain Lee was great but I don't think they are around any more. Eastwood sells some products but I haven't used any of their stuff yet for that.

Wire wheel, Ospho, then paint.

That looks like someone used POR15 on the trunk floor at some point.  I would soak it with evaporust or scrub it with rustmort. Eastwood makes a good rust dissolver gel that works great.  It will clean up with a little patience. Hopefully no holes when you are done.  Use a good epoxy primer or self etch primer when done.  Then seal her up.

@ratroaster the original owner before me did a lot of work himself. Ever since I have owned the car I have been slowly changing the car back to original. Thank you for the suggestion I will have to try it what would you recommend to seal it up with? I'm very new to this so any tips or products you would recommend would be gratyly appreciated.

If that is POR15 covering rust, I would remove it with a DA sander to do it right. Then treat it with a rust remover like rustmort. Then use a good epoxy or self etch primer and seal it up with a sealer primer.  You can have paint mixed to match your body color at most auto parts stores and spray it with a gun or they can mix it and put it in spray cans if you don't have a gun.

Wire wheel, piclex (or rust mort)--these turn the rust areas "black", epoxy prime, then body color!
