Hi Guys,

I'm updating my insurance and it's between 3 companies.

1. Hagerty $549.00 for $30,000 agreed value
2. American Collectors $486.00 for $30,000 agreed value
3. Grundy $297.00 for $30,000 agreed value

I've always been with American Collectors which I've never had an issue with.  But Grundy seems really cheap.  What do you all think of Grundy?

What are your thoughts on all 3?  Thanks

Find an agent that carries American Modern collector car ins.  I have $85k agreed for $296, only 1000 mi/yr though.

I've got Grundy and know others that have them also... Never any problems with them jacking up the rates {goes up like $20 a year}.. My buddy has a body shop for over 40yrs and said all claims run through Grundy were easy and drama free.. Even the additional damage found after the initial claims went smoothly...And the no limit on the mileage is a big plus for anyone that actually drives their vehicle...

I switched to them a couple years ago after Hagerty was going to jack my premiums up 40% for no reason, and they were a bit less than Hagerty had been charging me before the increase.
So I'm happy with that.  But I hope they are good if I ever have to make a claim. I've found little feedback on how they do with collector car claims, but they do RVs or mobile home insurance too and I see lots of complaints on them in those areas.

RV's are a literal nightmare. For some unknown reason (boredom?) I've been checking out some youtube on RV issues..OY! Anyway I've never made a claim either, but have had good treatment on our "drivers" and home

I have Hagerty and an agreed $40,000 Collision policy and pay $303.00 per year.  :dunno:
Never filed a claim but they haven't jacked up my rates so I have no idea if they would jerk me around or not...

I just applied to Grundy for a quote and it came out to $298 for a $60,000 policy.  After taxes and fees it was $347

It's a hell of a scam until ya need it

I switched to Grundy after my horrible claim fiasco with Hagerty but haven`t had a claim with them yet.

I live in south Florida so that's probably why the higher costs.

I have Farm Bureau Insurance for both of my daily vehicles as well as the home insurance.   My 74 Challenger is also with them and while i dont remember the price exactly, i do remember that it is cheaper because of the package than either Hagerty or any of the other classic car insurance companies.  Dont be afraid to try your standard insurance companies.. most of them understand classic cars !!

My story

Last year my Challenger was hit while parked at a car show...  idiot let a golf cart run into it.   I took it to a local Collision shop that also does classics and they gave me an itemized estimate of $9600 including tax.  I sent it to Farm Bureau and they in turn sent their collision estimator to me and he made a couple of adjustments to that estimate but basically same price.   They in turn worked with the insurance of the guy with the golf cart and they didnt want to assume fault.  While this was being worked on i told Farm Bureau that i wanted to get the car in the shop and needed the money.   THEY SENT ME A CHECK FOR $9350 as my insurance has a $250 deductible and said when it was settled with other insurance they would send me a check for my deductible.  .

I then found a shop that was much less expensive and gave them the job.  They tried but was never able to get the paint to perfectly match the FC7 Plum Crazy.   We then agreed on a price of $8,000 to paint the entire car.  We got the paint from a PPG distributor and they did a custom mix with   PPG Omni PLus paint and reducer.  Got it back after 9 months and it is GORGEOUS, perfect repair!!  Im still waiting on my deductible refund but even without it i made out !!  No hassle !!

It's not always about the upfront money to insure them. I've stayed with Hagerty all these years because I have a friend in the body shop business. He indicates that Hagerty always accepts his quotes with no issues. If he has to add something later there's no problems for his shop or the car owner. I can only speak for Hagerty. If others had sadly had to make claims, maybe they can talk about other insurance companies....Joe
