Hello all,
Just took out my box, sending to firmfeel.  Opinions on what ratio to go with?  20 or 16?

Thanks

Firm feel inc received my manual steering box last week and here's what Matt told me, driving the car will be more fun at driving speeds but more to handle at low speed and in parking situations. The upgrade from a stock 24:1 to a 16:1 is a little over $200. I guess it depends on what you plans are for the car, personally mine is a stock rebuild so I am ok with 24:1.

I would go the faster ratio, most of us don't parallel park these cars anymore.

I have the 16:1 in my cuda and a tuff wheel, just get the car rolling a bit before you turn the wheel and it's fine.      I cringe when I see someone turn the steering wheel when the vehicle is setting still.

I suppose a smaller steering wheel will be in order with the 16 ratio.  What size wheel did you get?  What is factory?

Couple things to consider, the faster the ratio the steering on a manual box, the harder it will be to static steer no question.  A smaller steering wheel will also add to that condition.  I build a HEMI clone vert for my daughter that I also drive with a standard ratio manual box and hated it.  Power steering was added in short order.

Engine and tire width play a role too.

My brother and I both have B-Bodies with manual steering.

My engine is all iron and based on an MP mega-block. So, about 800lbs resting over regular street tires with a 24:1 box.

My brother has an aluminum headed 440 resting over skinny front runner tires with a 16:1 box.

I think his is less work to steer even with the quicker ratio.

My steering wheel came from Dale's cuda shop, No E-body left the factory with a tuff wheel. the smaller steering wheel does add to the effort!   :alan2cents:

I've had 24:1, 20:1, and 16:1 manual boxes in various projects.  In my opinion, 20:1 was by far the best for all-around driving.
