Moulding Trim - What Are These?

The deck lid/rear quarter trim clip set I received from year one came with six extra plastic clips.  I'm at a loss as to how they're used.  Is it possible the kit is for multiple purposes and these aren't needed for my application?  Any help is appreciated!

My car is a Gran Coupe, I'm fitting that trim now.  But my trunk lid doesn't appear to be original because it lacks the moulding holes.  I have three studs left, but all six of the plastic pieces, and can't see/understand how the plastic pieces are used. They don't slide into the trim as is, unless I cut one of the stems off.  Doesn't appear to be a grommet of some kind for the stud, so I'll probably just pitch them.
