Looking for some info on shaker hoods. I've seen conversions done using a original flat hood. Who has done this or has the info on it. Also is there a complete kit you can buy from the bubble down? I know OE shaker parts are very expensive.

Also since the modern hemi swaps are getting more popular has anyone seen a modern shaker on a old car?

The flat hood conversions are not easy or cheap , I have seen a number converted over the years you need to cut the outer skin & inner bracing & weld in the new under hood frame & then fit the upper trim ring , you need to do the research but you will probably find just buying the whole kit is no more expensive especially when you add in your time to convert the flat hood properly .
Snobar used to be the go to , not sure who is doing the best kits now

Even if you have a shaker ready hood, it's still expensive given the other pricey components and they aren't always fit ready which means you will have to do work to make it fit, especially considering the carb used.

Just stay away from the fiberglass stuff iro the base. Also, getting a well made and correct bubble is another challenge.

Sounds like the new hood is the way to go. Has anyone done a shaker conversion with a new style as I'm sure the old style wont bolt up to the new style hemi

I think the AMD hoods killed the market on the shaker hood conversion kits, there may be a few still kicking around. My metal; guy made a few back in the day for sure. You can't give away a flat hood any more...

Talking in CDN dollars, I just bought a set-up using an AMD hood and it was $4500-$5000 complete. :dunno:

Putting one on a new generation Hemi would be a whole other story... :alan2cents: I'm sure there will be a kit out there, if not soon...

RUNCHARGER

Yup: I did my last 2 Challengers and they end up being in the $5k range. I wouldn't do a Challenger again however a Cuda pretty much needs the shaker to look any good IMO. AMD is the only way to go on the hood.

The Cuda AMD shaker hood I think is the only way to go.I just install mine and the fit was great. The AMD  trim ring fit perfectly.I have done 2 shake hood conversions and you will have 40 to 50 hours in one to get it right.AMD does not sell the Cuda shaker hood with the pin holes any more.

Auto Metal Direct (AMD) does.

Sorry, I should warn the shaker trim ring I got from AMD with the shaker hood, fit poorly in my opinion. Since there was limited options on getting a better Challenger shaker ring, I spent a lot of time on the one I had. Happy with the improvement. So if you get a hood fing an original ring if you can.

Just ran into this issue last week with a Challenger AMD shaker trim ring as well....I worked with the body shop to get it corrected the best we could...
Maybe, AMD uses the same trim ring for both Challenger and Cuda ??? I've heard the Cuda ones fit okay  :dunno:
