So after doing some research it's clear that the tail panel on my 73 challenger Rallye should be silver argent, not flat black (which it is now).
Looking around for silver argent paint to put it back to original, and there is light argent, dark argent and everything in between.
What colour of silver argent paint would be correct for the tail panel?'would a paint like Eastwood's Rallye wheel silver argent be correct?

I used dark argent that I got from Roseville Moparts.

I just looked at my original tailpanel from my 73. It is only silver where the tail lights go. Not in the center where the lock is. It is a light silver and it is a textured paint. My car is not a Rallye. I have used Eastwood argent wheel paint and it is definitely darker than what's on the car. I could take a picture of it but, I haven't been able to figure out how to load them on this site from my phone.

MY G.C. had silver argent.

It was applied on very thick.

Original paint was a Lacquer type.

It's amazing searching the internet how many people disagree on what colour the tail panel on a 73 Rallye Challenger should be.
Seems 50/50 out there on argent or satin black.
Maybe I'll do a light sand on the satin black where it rolls over under the trunk and see what colour is underneath; I'm going to refinish the tail panel either way.

My understanding is argent silver at rear panel, front and rear bumper fillers. Some type of black at the recessed area of taillights.

I just can't get pictures off my phone on the site. I'll post on the Facebook page

I have the tail lights from three 73 non-rallye parts cars I owned. All are argent. Like Mike said, laid on pretty thick.
The horizontal surfaces, if you want to call it that where it recesses in towards the lenses, is some form of flat black.

This photo was posted here a while back as being correct for a 72-74 Challenger Rallye. A base 72-74 Challenger would have argent silver tail light housings.

 :iagree:
My three base '73 cars had the exact opposite of that. Argent where it is black, and black where it is argent.

Paul Herd's Restoration Book "Challenger & Barracuda" last two paragraphs on page 253, describes the colors of the tail lamp panel. Apparently the tail panel in the photo above is correct.

My understanding is from the sales data book and from previous discussion with others is that the picture above is for a 72 year only rallye.

The 73/74 is the opposite and there is no difference for the rallye package.  Silver inlay with black surrounds.

Attached is a picture i took at the nats last year of a 73 rallye with what i believe are the correct application for 73/74 cars.

I don't recall if the car in question was a true rallye package or not as I was surprised to see it with belt moldings and the bumpers are definitely not 73. I do remember it had the correct tail panel treatment and I'm fairly certain it had a 73 vin.   I'm not an expert here, but from what i recall finding is that the blackout tail panel was a 72 only kind of deal.

Incorrect.  I posted that picture and it's ONLY correct for a 72 Rallye.  The car pictured is a 72 Rallye 318 car.
