Steering shaft thread size

Does anybody know the thread size of the steering column shaft where you mount the crush can? The shaft I took out has smaller threads (1/2") then the one I just installed. Thank you, Joe

For the record, the other size nut was 9/16-18 which is the same size used on Saginaw power steering pump pully....Joe
