Common belief has been that the two first bars on a 70 Challenger R/T grille were not painted black but left in its bright metal anodized finish. The regular Challenger grille only had the first bar left unpainted. My original R/T grille also only had one bar not painted. I found it interesting that Tony's survivor R/T only has about 1/2 a bar not painted black. Bottom line is "never say never" when it comes to Mopars. If you check this video at the 1:07 mark you will see what I mean. Much clearer if you watch the video on a large screen TV.

@TONY What a great video and some awesome cars ! I could sit and listen to you talk cars all day. :drinkingbud: I wish you the best of luck in the sale, good cars should always bring good money. If those are the cars you're willing to part with, I can't imagine what other cars you're keeping.. :clapping:

All the best....Alan :drinkingbud:

Here is a shot of my buddies T/A he bought in 1974. It was an all original 1 owner 7000 mile car. Unfortunately it is a scan of a Polaroid and the angle is hard to tell if it has one or two bars un painted.

I downloaded your picture and then I was able to expand it. To me it looks like all the bars were painted black.

Here's the grille out of my T/A.  I am pretty sure it was never swapped out.

:iagree:  That's the common way they were done....but it's 1970's Chrysler Quality Control....I'm sure not all of them were 100% exact...even with some sort of masking tool being used...poop happens :alan2cents:

@750-h2  I thought the same thing but I think it is the angle. I found some shots of my car and in the side view it looks like it is all black but it really wasn't.

I am repainting my 70 Dodge Challenger R/T Factory Original Grille. The original paint seems to be a black textured paint used on the grill tray & headlight bezels. What is the correct color & texture?
