Why are these here?

Cleaning up rear window channel today and found these. Wonder if anyone knows the purpose. Appear to be staples, 3 in both upper corners. I don't have a fender tag or build sheet. 70 Challenger...

Does your car have a vinyl top? The factory used to staple the vinyl top in the windshield channel. It's even called out on the factory blueprint.  :cheers:

No clue if it had a vinyl top. I was guessing that was the reason but had never seen it mentioned anywhere before. Thanks for the answer! Another mystery solved...

Your datatplate will tell you whether it had a vinyl top or not.  it will be the code above the paint code: V1X, and V1W are the most common.  If your dataplate is MIA, then its just tell tale signs like the staples, lack of paint & body filler under where the top was, A-pillar trim, etc. if it matters to you; for some the top is non-desired these days.
