1970 440 Distributor Paint?

We're 1970 440 distributors painted by the supplier after assembly?  My 3438222 distributor was painted silver. I'm not clear if a previous owner painted it or this was done by the supplier.

The later distributors are aluminum. I assume the 1970 version is as well? If it's aluminum, it wasn't painted. It was just natural machined aluminum.

To bring back the original finish might be difficult. A soak in some kind of cleaner like aluminm wheel cleaner would be a good start. Maybe even a light media blasting with baking soda or walnut shells. Then wet sand the machined area to bring back the shine/ machined look.

Thanks for the response.  I suspected that there was no reason to paint an aluminum housing.  I'll strip it off.
