Just got a good looking am/fm radio. I want to bench test it. There is a red wire and an orange one on on of the plugs. I assume the red is hot. What is the orange one? The other plug has 3 wires- purple, black and green. I'm guessing they are speaker wires. Can anyone clear this up for me?

You are correct, the red wire is hot. Frame needs to be grounded. The orange wire on my radio is for the light inside the radio. You are also correct about the speaker wire colors. Simple to bench test a radio. Good luck.  :cheers:

Purple = Right speaker
Green = Left speaker
Black = Ground/Speaker common

Ok, bench test done. Have power in the radio, through switch and to the circuit board. No sound. I'm not an electronic guy so, how do you test speaker output? On a good note, I replaced the bulb and have light on the dial now.
