I've been looking at the Out of Sight Audio devise that I saw posted here a while back. It looks like just what I want, but so dang expensive. I did a search and found something very similar by Pyle that is nearly $300 cheaper. So I'm a bit skeptical, though they are a respectable brand. It is "marine rated" and a bit bigger, I sure like the price. See links below.

Any audio experts know of a catch to using the Pyle?

I plan to mount it in the trunk, so will need a switched positive connection. Not sure of the speaker layout yet, I have a 3-speaker dash and wanting something for the rear but it is a convertible so still contemplating ideas.

It's pretty awesome to have. I used this one for my Challenger, put 6x9's in the back and used an updated speaker in my dash. Sound is great, have a switch hidden under my dash in case of alternator problems but comes on and off with my key.

I left my AM radio in my dash just for show but do not have any power going to it.

If you are not using the factory radio at all I don't see the need to spend the extra for the Out of Sight Audio - it has a pass through for the speakers so your factory radio still works.  If you are only going to use the Bluetooth device only any of the hidden devices will work - the only issue I see is having only your Bluetooth device for volume control - my phone which I use to stream music in my 2022 VW always has low volume so I have to increase the volume on the radio. :alan2cents:

Thanks all. My factory radio is sitting in the garage, no idea if it works. I will put it in the car eventually but not concerned to make it functional. I much prefer to bluetooth from my phone.

I don't need high-end audio, thus looking for something cheap but that does work. If I do 2 speakers in the back and also hook up the dash speakers I am thinking I need the 4-channel model and fine with $80-$90.

Here's a pic of me doing a neighbor kid's drive-by birthday party, I used an ATV "boom box" (that is bluetooth). I just sat it on top of the convertible top. Need something more permanent ;)

I am also looking to modernize my 70 radio but would like to keep it budget friendly.  I would like to have the original radio work and still have a modern sound.  If I am understanding the Pyle unit correctly, I can use my original radio and a bluetooth player (from my phone)?  The price is hard to beat if this will work how I hope!

Also, not being an expert on speakers, I have a 3 speaker dash and would like to use all 3 locations plus a pair of 6 x 9s in the rear tray.  What speaker set ups are being used?  If I put a tweeter in each of the sides (1 for left front channel, 1 for right) what would fit in the middle to cover mid/bass for each front channel?

I see Amazon has the Pyle for about $46!  Has some bad reviews....looking for a more higher quality item that does the same thing.  This unit may be the one I am thinking about...  https://smile.amazon.com/Audio-Systems-MC900B-All-Terrain-Multifunction/dp/B00IBI518Y/ref=psdc_2230642011_t1_B072BMP3YG

Thanks

I would not put a tweeter on each side and a midrange in the middle - you will get a lot of separation from that setup.  If you are not going to amplify the system, you will be severely limited in any improvement in sound quality - the Pyle unit is an IC chip amplifier and you will never get 100W x 4 channels out of something that compact; it will definitely be better but do not expect miracles.  I would find a good set of 4" component speakers and make adapter plates for the outside locations and abandon the center speaker.  If you can't find a set of component speakers then a good set of coaxial 4" will do.  :alan2cents:

Thank you for the info... I did a little research on the Pyle unit on Amazon and I think I found a better unit..  https://smile.amazon.com/Audio-Systems-MC900B-All-Terrain-Multifunction/dp/B00IBI518Y/ref=psdc_2230642011_t1_B072BMP3YG

I mentioned separating the speakers with tweeters and such as that is what I have in my daily modern car.  It has separate tweeters in the a pillar and then about a 6" round mid/bass speaker in the door.  I have 4 of these in the car and it sounds great, using the 2001 factory radio.

Agreed that the factory set ups are great, but don't forget the speakers are in the same plane, and there is a tremendous amount of engineering that goes into the crossover networks and time delays to ensure sound is blended correctly.  The Boss audio is very similar to the Pyle unit.  For the application, it is a decent solution, just not a true amplified solution; but that requires more space and less ability to retain the original look
