I have no idea how long its been since previous owner had it apart, but I know it has been within 10yr or so. How hard is it to take apart and more importantly to put back together ?
I'm thinking about removing the wire and connections for the hot lead to the amp meter(changing to volt) and run a separate wire through a grommet in a different hole.

Should not be too hard , just squeeze the tabs top & bottom & wiggle the connector out , the internal connector & fuse block is held in place with 2 nuts through the firewall on the engine side

The male connectors have a fish hook style lock.  I squeeze them a little long ways using pliers or inserting a small screwdriver along the edge to collapse.  Once collapsed they pull out of the bulkhead easily.

Females have a lock tab that needs a pick or removal tool inserted.  Easy to get out.
