oil pressure gauge problem

Your post said you have a new standard sending unit. If so, that is your problem. The light uses a standard unit the gauge uses a special sending unit.

There is a company called Standard that makes these sending units. It appeared to me the OP was referring to them by brand since he capitalized the name in his first post.

BUT what y'all are overlooking is the sending unit doesn't appear to be the problem.
From original post "Removed a sending unit from my 71 Cuda that I knew it was working, and still same issue. Installed the first sending unit, and it worked perfectly." New sender worked in the 71 Cuda is they way I read it.

Yes, I used the Standard brand sending unit made for the gauges set up. Thinking it was faulty, I purchased anoter sending unit from R. Eherenberg on ebay, and it had the same problems of gauge not rising enough. Out of desperation, starter the 71 Cuda conv 383, checked the gauge reading, and was correct and as the other e bodies in my possession. So removed the sending unit in the Cuda, and installed in the Challenger. Same low reading as the other sending unit. Installed the first sending unit, the Standard brand in the Cua, and it worked flawlessly, showing the correct oil pressure reading. So far, three sending units with same problem. At this point, I am thinking that the gauge is wrong, even if it goes to max reading when it is grounded.

I just remembered I had a low oil pressure reading on my rallye gauge back in 2009 right after an oil change. There was a lengthy thread on CC.c (will post link tomorrow) about it.

To make a long story short, I replaced the oil filter and all was okay after that.

Jay Bee, I am using a WIX filter...will change it. But when I started the car the first time, using a mechanical gauge, pressure was of. I think it is more gauge related.

Hmmm, pressure is off with both dash and mechanical gauge. It'll be interesting to see what the solution ends up being.

I would not run the engine again until I had installed the mechanical gauge again. Confirm it's accuracy outside the engine with 50 p.s.i. of air pressure. Sure hope the electrical gauge and senders haven't been telling you the truth.

Tried an external oil pressure gauge, mechanical, and oil pressure was ok at 50 psi. Gauge is a new KD tools
Guess it is the original guage that reads too low. Maybe the needle is bent, so doesnt show correctly

You've got a bunch of high dollar Mopars.  Spend a few bucks on a cheap multi-meter (or better yet a few more dollars on a good one) so that you can troubleshoot this stuff correctly.  As others have previously pointed out, if your gauge is working, but reading low, it may be due to too much resistance in the circuit between the sender body and battery ground.  A test light is not the right tool for troubleshooting this issue.  The right tool could have saved you two months of frustration on this. :alan2cents:

Death Proof...I can buy the tool...but I dont have experience to use it. My mechanic is busy right now, and doesnt have time to fix this problem. I just wanted to be sure I had good oil  pressure.
