I recently installed a aftermarket stereo and subwoofer, and then I said I started having some trouble with sporadic overcharging not all the time! I would notice surges of the radio shutting down and massive overcharging until it leveled out in the radio came back on, thinking I screwed up something I just connected the radio completely but this sporadic overcharging still remains
. Immediately I check out the voltage regulator, all checked out good.
What else can I check if the regulator is doing its job, or obviously not!. Lol
72 CHal. Anitmeter bypass, and all of MAD electrics relay upgrades done
Other than that pretty original
Thanks

It's Amazing what we can accomplish~

With just a little bit of hard work.

And a whole LOT of complaining!!... lol

Make sure voltage regulator is well grounded. New paint can cause issues with grounding.

It is possible the added stereo components are just highlighting bad connections in your charging system. The higher the current flow, the more apparent bad connections are. Go over ALL your charging system connections. New and old.
As Brad suggests, VR grounding is extremely important and is one of the connections to check.

I had the same issue. Turned out to be a bad voltage regulator, even though it was new. I got lucky and found an Oem someone had lying around and that one worked fine.

Where are the sound components pulling power from, the battery or the alternator?

Caparco

Thanks for the advice and tips guys, yes it was powered directly to the battery but like I said I sense disconnected and pulled out the whole audio system since I started having trouble and it's still there, maybe it's like you said just enough to overload it to have trouble I'll have to redo my wiring cuz it was working fine before. And I've learned quite a bit how important ground wiring is in everything really!
