I have a very late build 71 cuda that has a 72 AM/FM radio . There is a wire with a plug that goes to the main harness for light and power, that only leaves two wires left. Do I need a cross over box or something as there is rear speakers and the one front speaker? Thanks

So you should have red & orange connected , the other 2 will be black & green for the speaker so only mono sound , I would have to look at the factory diagrams how they allowed for extra speakers , probably the fader control beside the heater controls , or you could use an aftermarket amp

It's weird that you wouldn't have a 3 speaker dash with an AM/FM. Anyway, here's a picture of a typical 3 speaker set-up used in 1970 (don't know if it's the same for '71). If you have that harness under your dash you can rig up something to extend the outboard speaker connections to your rear ones. I believe it's a different harness if your car has a fader switch.

I dont have s cross over box, three speaker dash or a fader switch. Who knows what the owners over the years have done. Did all am/FM radios run a cross over box? Guess my options are that or mono , not that the stereo will be used lots

Just for fun look under your dash and see if that harness might be there. Why? Well my car originally came with just an AM radio. When I looked into connecting my AM/FM thumbwheel stereo that harness was under there. I'm pretty sure I didn't buy it but I can't be 100% positive 'cause my memory ain't what it used to be. I do remember having to buy that crossover box though. Here's another picture to help you with those wires.

I do have the orange one I've seen that and the other one looks like my center speaker one. Where is the best place to get a cross over box? Do only original one work?

Other than ebay or swap meets I don't know where else you could find one. I just re-read your post -  if you have only one speaker wire then it can't be an AM/FM and then you don't need any of that stuff. Please show a pic of the front of the radio.
