Bullitt-

Bottom picture looks correct to me although the seal looks thicker than I recall..

This new switch doesn't work.  I tested it before I installed it. The center pin doesn't ground when the plunger is pressed. The reverse terminals work. The switch in the car, the center pin is grounded in park and neutral but the reverse pin have no continuity in reverse. I think I will need to drop the trans pan.

The switch can be tested outside the trans. Ground the pin to the car the engine can then be start at P or N. Unground the pin then there should be backup light in R. You need to hook up the hardness though. If you have backup light with the switch install in trans and in R, likely your rooster comb has the clearance. If you cannot start the engine in P or N, then likely the shifter linkage is not adjust correct. You can disconnect the linkage and move the trans lever to P. It should be all the way toward the back if I recall correct. Last resort, drop the trans pan and you see everything.

Thanks. Looks like I'm going to drop the pan.
