Hi Everyone,

Full disclosure A am working on my Duster 340 here but the question should be the same. I have a 1970 340 with an A833 that has recently been rebuilt by very reputable shop. When I got it back I am trying to work on the alignment of the shift rods to fix a situation where the gears cannot shift correctly and bind up. The only way to get it back to normal is to shift through the pattern starting at 1.

I have tried to adjust this transmission and I put a rod through the shifter to lock it out, and adjust the levers till they slip in and out easily of the holes on both the shifter and the transmission levers. I recently decided to hit up youtube and look at past photos on the website and the trans has bushings on either the shift arm end or the shift levers.

My car when I got it never had any. the question is should it?
Someday I will have a J0b.

Factory Mopar installed Hurst linkage did not. If you bought a Comp Plus shifter at the speed shop they had the bushings. Check to see if your the linkage holes in your shifter tabs and shifter box levers are nice and round and that the linkage fits in them snugly or have play. You may have to drill them oversize and then utilize the bushings.
It sounds like it was shifting okay before the rebuild though?

It is a factory hurst shifted car - I can double check if it is a competition plus shifter or not. Is there an easy giveaway while it is installed in the car?

It was shifting better before the rebuild but it did bind up with reverse. but 1-4 were fine other than the stops needed to be adjusted. it went too far into one and three and barely into second and fourth. The shop that redid the trans said that it was all in good working order and other than normal wear items needed nothing.

the car was an 1/8th mile drag car back in the day prior to a full rotisserie restoration - some parts like shift rods likely had a rough life.
