I've been looking at pinion & gear sets with rebuild kit and I keep seeing " 489 late series ". What do I need to be looking for on my 489 case that would make it a late series? So I guess there would be a early series also what sets them apart?

Just a guess but I think late series is implying it is a 489 not a 741/742/657 ..... Not aware of two series of 489's...

RUNCHARGER

Yep: 489 denotes late, 742 denotes early me thinks.

Cass at Dr. Diff answered the is my 489 case a early or late case. The answer is early because it is a 10 spline and the late 489 case is a 29 spline pinion.  :thankyou:
