I recently had my AAR Cuda at the shop that restored the car 6 years ago (Muscle Car Restorations – Chippewa Falls, WI) for some minor repairs.  The six pack intake manifold crossover (original motor) is blocked, so I didn't have a working choke.  I was tired of using starter fluid when starting the car, so MCR offered to convert to a manual choke.  I looked for some guidance in the online forums and didn't see anything except for an electric choke.  I thought this manual choke conversion would be good to share.

MCR installed a 1971 Hemi choke cable (part number FP305) in the same location as the Hemi choke, holes were already in the dash frame.  They drilled a hole in the firewall in the same location as the hole in the Hemi firewall.  This is the cool part – they modified a Holley 383/440 choke housing (Chrysler 3512867, Holley 4740-1) to accept the choke cable and welded together a reverse cam arrangement so the choke would close when the cable is pulled.  After painting the choke housing engine color, it looks stock when installed (see the video for final installation).  The only trick in operating the choke is you have to step on the gas pedal to disengage the fast idle cam before pulling on the choke cable.  Works like a charm!

Interesting solution. I have the exact same problem. I was going to look at modifying my existing choke by adding the heating electric element from an automatic choke into the housing. Nice post.
