Is it normal for the 4 speed to sit some what lose with no engine bolted to it? Mine seems real lose, I even changed the rubber mount and it still can be moved around a few inches side to side.

Do you mean while the trans is still in the car?
In the immortal words of Jimmy Scott- "pace yourself!"

yes, that's a lot of weight in front of the mount that it is not designed to carry - just like an engine will rotate on its mounts until it hits the firewall if no transmission is attached

:alan2cents:  I wouldn't leave it like that, you need to support the front of the transmission    :wrenching:

Yes its in the car just siting there had to bungy it up some for transport to the blaster. Was just wondering if its normal for it to be lose a bit. looks like its going to be fun putting the engine in with a trans slightly off to one side...

Any recommendations for better supporting it?

Would remove it before any blasting... Sand & gears don't mix well....  For that ya need a Rock Crusher...

I bet it would be next to impossible to install an engine/bellhousing/clutch in front of a mounted 4-speed transmission

Its very simple at this stage to remove the tranny. Your better off doing it now and install after the engine is back in.

You are setting yourself up for misery. These boards are for helping people that lack experience. So take my 45 years of experience and pull the tranny now. Yes will get blasting abrasive everywhere, I promise you that. Installing a motor in the bay AND stabbing the trans at the same time is almost impossible. It might could be done with lots of effort but there is no reason for it. It will be faster to pull and install it after you get the motor back in place.

Now that we've covered the trans lets talk about what else is still on the car that should be removed before any blasting.....

EVERYTHING!!!!!

This is one Alan just got ready for blasting... It took him a couple days.... Might take you a little longer but if you want to blast the car this is how it needs to look...

Good points, I'll pull the trans and drive shaft today everything else is out, got the door glass out yesterday and what a pain the passenger door was first lesson of what not to do, drivers not so bad but still with hold parts... saved for another post...
