Looking at options for supercharging my Hughes Engines 505 stroker, does anyone have experience going a classic route (staying carbonated w/ large blower sticking through the hood) or a more modern path of going EFI with a Paxton style setup. There don't seem to be any useful info I can find in past threads.

For the classic setup, how bad is the visibility? That's probably the biggest concern with that route. For the Paxton option, biggest question would be, is there a way to keep it under the Rallye hood without any clearance issues?

Thanks,

Peter

I have built & tuned both styles , the Paxton /Procharger type can be fitted under hood , Roots / Whipple are the other way to go , I would seriously look at the Whipple screw blowers over the massive roots style , done correctly & using multiport EFI I bet you could get a Whipple under the hood also .
You could also consider twin turbos as an option .
No matter which way you decide to go I would use EFI using carbs is old school & really not the best , EFI is far more accurate .

Thanks for the feedback. I'm leaning towards the pro charger style setup w/ EFI like you mentioned, with water injection. I also have aspirations for a shaker hood, randomly found this image on the supercharger stores' website. Anyone familiar with this car? Would love to know how they set this up with the shaker.

I would seriously look at a Whipple like the new Hellcats & Demons have , sits very low with a front air intake no top , most efficient type of blower right now .
You really need to design the whole engine for this , lower compression & special cam grind to optomize the blower

The Whipple's can be inter-cooled. Great for street.

The Pro Chargers put out probably the most boost of any Super Charger.
At SEMA, they had some Monsters there saying over 1,500 HP.

I don't believe Whipple makes something for the old big block fitment, I have some contact with Whipple and no easy way to fit without doing a very custom setup. The Procharger does seem like this easiest route, paired with EFI.

I would prefer the Whipple as well (have a '12 Mustang with a Gen5 Whipple, and a '97 Mustang with a Procharger), much less finicky and has never thrown a belt, where as the Procharger systems are prone to throw belts as the mounting brackets flex over time.

You could use a blower intake & a adapter plate to mount the Whipple , I bet Brad could tooll up an adapter & have fun doing it !!

Easy and relatively painless.

I would still use EFI instead of a blow through carb system  :alan2cents:

Just curious if you know of anyone who's done a Whipple setup on a 440 big block? The guy at Whipple I spoke with wasn't aware of any kit, but someone must make the intakes to accept a standard Whipple head unit. Also, with my compression being 10.25:1, would definitely need water injection and low boost, otherwise guessing I need to take apart the bottom end and re-size the pistons for a more suitable compression for a blown setup.

Sorry about the delay in replying , yet another computer failed  :Thud:
I don't know anyone running a whipple on a 440 , it will take some innovation but using a blower intake & an adapter plate to get the 2 together .
