Thought I'd show off my carb that just came back. It's the original 2 barrel carb from the 318 on my 71 Barracuda convertible and interestingly, it's an actual Rochester used in this application. The car is very original so I wanted to keep the original carb. It was seeping a bit of gas out of the gaskets and it had something weird going on with the choke pull off but other than that, it ran very nice. It seemed lean as well with spark plugs on the white side but I expect that on a smog motor.

From helping my buddy with his tri power GTO, I knew of a retired guy who rebuilt these tri power carbs in his spare time and his work was sensational. He checked every tiny detail on the other carbs and they went from good to phenomenal. Since my carb is essentially the center tri power carb, I knew I wanted him to look it over. He found that the jets should both be 55 but one was a 54 for some reason. He advised going to 56s for a bit better performance so I did. He learned that the choke pull off was leaking vacuum and also jamming up but he couldn't find a specific Plymouth replacement piece. Instead he went with one he uses in Pontiacs. Probably was the same anyway. The guy fixed a ton of tiny little things from a previous rebuild and even sent out the pieces for the proper factory style plating.

Door to door, parts and plating, the cost was only $305 which seemed quite reasonable to me. Got it bolted on and fired up before heading off to work. Didn't get to drive it yet but just dialing it in at idle, it purrs like a sewing machine. Even smoother than before and I didn't think that was possible. Much smoother during warm up which is really nice! After waiting nearly a month, I'm really excited to drive the car again. Before, the car could do a mild burnout and pass easily on the freeway and that was good enough for me. I'm really curious to see if I can feel a power increase with slightly larger jets. If nothing else, my plugs should go from white to tan.

Thought I'd share in case there are any guys here with one of these Rochester units.
