Hey I have a 727 out of a 69 roadrunner, have a leaking pan gasket I need to change, going to do filter at same time. My question is what type of tranny fluid should I use, I have been using ATF +4 but seems to be hard to come by these days.

Thanks

:) Type F ...If you can find it.

I used Type F in my manual valve body 727.

Isn't type F for ford transmissions? Kinda confused here,
Thanks

I am running Redline synthetic compatible with Mercon III. Much higher temperature rating. Good stuff but kind of expensive.

Long time professional transmission shop owner had this to say several years ago

"Dexron III is the easiest to get, cheapest to get and is very adequate for a 727/904. ATF+4 is fully synthetic and is  :money:  Type F is harder to get and I have seen no difference in shift quality with it."

The guy who rebuilt my 727, who has been rebuilding transmissions for decades and comes highly recommended locally, told me to use Dextron III/Mercon ATF.

Thanks for all the info, much appreciated

i Use plain ole ATF...buy it at walmart...something like $18 a gallon.   If you look right on the dipstick of older 727, 904, or even A518 it will say ATF or Dexron III.   The stuff i buy at walmart says compatible with ATF or those requiring Dexron III.
