I have a '70 340 and need an air cleaner. I bought one a while back that was not correct but it looked kinda cool and figured it would work until I got the original. I did a test fit today and it bumps into the distributor. I'm guessing it is a big block air cleaner dispite the old 340 sticker on the lid. Ugh. The originals are very expensive and hard to come by of course so I will have to wait for that. I have a couple options until I can get the accurate one and would love to hear what you all would do.

1. One of those cheap summit open style air cleaners for about $50 or so.
2. A Mopar or Edlebrock open style air cleaner for $150 or so.
3. Mancini 68/69ish style for about $150.
4. A '72 one with a trap door.
5. A 71 unsilenced, no snorkles, similar if not identical to the 70, I think. About $250 if it is still available (Probably not)
6. Other?

What would you all do? I'm a little concerned with the breather with the open style cleaner. Do the Breathers work to keep the fumes down?

Thanks
Tom

Bullitt-

I've had a '68 style air cleaner on my 340 since the late '70s & have had no issues with fumes from the breather. I think most of the ventilation is handled by the PCV valve.

Good to know. I was kinda leaning this way. Not sure how accurate the Mancinni ones are but they aren't too expensive.

I have the same style as bullitt but in chrome. Works great, can't say I've ever had a fumes issue.
