727s and 904s use the same filter.  I thought the overdrive trans used the spacer since the pan is deeper.  With no extension that extra capacity is wasted.  It just sits there at the bottom of the pan.  As long as the fluid level is kept right it really doesn't matter I guess.  It would be nice if you were pulling fluid closer to the bottom of the pan though.  I'd double check with a trans shop to see if it is supposed to have an extension.

Yeah it looks like the same filter is used for both a 904 / a-500 and 727 / 518.

Reading through the ATSG  manual for the a500 and A518 it provides an overview of the alterations to the transmission components.  It comments on the deeper oil pan, "a new deeper oil pan was required to provide room for the added valve body controls."

There is no mention of  spacer on the filter.

It appears that the deeper pan ins needed to accommodate the larger valve body and that the filer would be in the correct position.

Good info!  I guess the spacer is just used on the 727 and 904 when a deep pan is used.  Thanks for clearing that up.

No problem man.  The one thing you find out when doing a swap like this is that there is not a lot of info our there on these transmissions, or at least not on the boards that I have looked at.

So I am happy to help out with what ever little bit of info I can.
