Clutch pedal return

On the car I'm building now, I am considering ditching the over center spring and using a diaphragm style clutch instead. The over center spring assists the pedal in both directions though and without it, I'm wondering if there is a need for a small return spring to make sure the pedal returns to the top and doesn't keep the throwout bearing engaged.

I switched to a diaphragm clutch and really prefer it to the original set-up. It comes all the way back without a small over centre spring. It takes a lot less force to engage/disengage the clutch so I would be a little concerned about adding an over centre spring. It may hold the pedal to the floor...which would not be good...Thorough testing would be required I think.
