I'm thinking about installing a new intake manifold on my 70 Cuda with a Rallye hood and a 440.

I've got it narrowed down to either the Edelbrock Performer RPM or the Holley Street Dominator and will be using a 4150 Holley carb.

Will I have hood clearance issues with either of these intakes?

Also, didn't the Street Dominator intake use to be a Dual Plane?  The Street Dominator intakes I see available now are only single planes....and some ads refer to them as a Strip Dominator yet cast into the intake is Street Dominator.

I'd say the Holley street dominator. I have been using that intake on my 451 for over 15 years now on my 70 Challenger. ( with a Holley 4150 style carb ) Yes its a single plane. When I was building my engine I too asked and this was the recommendation.

Both are good intakes, the Holley will clear for sure. Iffy on the Edelbrock but I think guys have done it with drop base aircleaners.

Do yourself a favor (presuming it's not too late) and take some measurements of your current setup.   If you run in to a problem after your upgrades, you can take new measurements, and you'll know right where the problem is.

Using a yardstick or any straight edge, measure the height of  the air horn, between the upper round flange of your carburetor (the one the air cleaner sits on) and the top of the valley pan (intake manifold gasket) reinforcement rails.  By rail, I refer to the strip of metal in the front and back between the heads holding down the valley pan gasket.  If you measure front and back, you'll know the yard stick is parallel to the horizontal plane of the engine.

The second measurement is the height of the intake manifold measured at the bottom of the carburetor down to the same rails.  Or measure the height of the carburetor.  Either one,  subtracted from the air horn height gets you the other measurement.

I'm leaning towards the Edelbrock Performer RPM since it's a dual plane.  Can anyone confirm whether or not there is room for it on a 70 Cuda with a 440 and Rallye hood?

Yes. It fits. I used a drop base with an offset forward. There was an episode on Engine Masters that showed the RPM edged out slightly better than the other intake. Not sure if you would feel the difference.

Thanks for the reply edison1970.  I can see that's a 440 but is it a Cuda with Rallye Hood?  And did a regular drop base hit the hood and that's why you went with an offset one?
