I have a 73 challenger 340 4speed car that I am finally restoring after 27 years! My question is do all cars get a rad shroud? it has a 22" radiator, obviously not a max cool or a/c car. I believe I was told years ago not all cars get a shroud. Can anyone confirm what should be on there? What say you?

Thanks!

For sure not all cars get a fan shroud but I believe a 340 4spd car should have it ,not positive but I bet it did .

My '73 340 automatic 22" radiator apparently did not come with a shroud.
We acquired it in '75 from the first owner with 22K miles & pretty sure no work had been done other than replacing the battery & tires.

My 73 318 car has a 22" rad with NO shroud.   It has a 2" fan spacer on the front with no clutch.

In 73 looks like no shroud unless 26" rad and a/c. My 73 340-auto 22" rad did not have a shroud, nor the cage nuts or mounting brackets when I got it, but I added them later.

That is a good question. I thought all mopars had fan shrouds. At least those that I have had. Maybe the slant sixes don't have them? :notsure:

I can't understand why the factory wouldn't put one on all cars. Pretty much kills the efficiency without one.

My Slant6 70 Challenger did not come with a fan shroud. Yet at any speed and any traffic condition with its four blade fan seemed to cool just fine.

Thanks Burdar. I know you know the history of your car so its a great reference! Mine has a clutch fan and no spacer, I guess I am on the hunt for the right stuff. I thought I heard that it wasn't supposed to have one, just wanted to be sure.

Interesting topic.  1974 318 19" rad with shroud.  I can only assume total part cost went down from 73 to 74 by reducing the rad size and adding the shroud.
