I know a 383 came with 5/16 fuel line and a 440 came with 3/8. Has anyone noticed any difference in performance using a 5/16 fuel line in either a stock or modified 440? Just wondering if the size of the fuel line really matters that much. I'm talking about a street car not an all out race car.

I've run a few dual quad Hemis wih a 5/16" line with no ill effects. If replacing the fuel line, might as well upgrade to 3/8 but if your 5/16" is good there is no reason to upgrade.

From personal experience I can tell you around 600 hp or 12 second ET range you will starve for fuel with a 5/16 line for sure , you have to stay in the throttle for a few seconds to empty the carb fuel bowls tho

I've also an my HEMI on 5/16 without issue. But eventually did upgrade to 3/8

Thanks for the info. I suspected I'd be fine with the 5/16. My reason for asking is that I'm getting really tired of the bad aftermarket fuel sending unit not reading anywhere near correct. I understand why they can never read right and I've been kicking around different solutions for years. There's a little electrical gizmo that will make it read better or I can just get an OEM sending unit. Those are a little pricey and only 5/16 but just might be worth it in the long run.

My car was originally a 383 car but I have 440 in it now. Years ago I had 1970 440 out of a Charger practically handed to me. So I copied a 440 build from an old Car Craft magazine article and they got 535 hp on the dyno. I've had it down the track a few times with a best time of 13.02 @ 106.5 mph. But my 60 ft times were in the mid 2 sec range on street tires. If I had better traction and little more practice I'm pretty sure I can it down in the 12 sec range. I've had my fun at the track so now I just drive it on the street.
