Will a sure grip unit fit into my 8 3/4 rear with no issues? I have a 741 case. I can also pick up a rear with a 742 case if needed.

Maybe it's just the bearings that are different ?

Yes, confirmed by Dr. Diff. All I need is a shim kit and new bearings.

The main difference in the different differentials is the pinion size, not the ring gear carrier. The 742 is prefered by a lot of people, even over the infamous 489. Which came with the Auburn style cone style sure-grip
