Hot starts

Getting ready to drive my car to my buddy's body shop to finish out some paint touch ups. Went to the local gas station to fill up. Shut the car off at the pump and realized I didn't pull up enough.  Went to start it back up and it barely turned over. It never did this before.  Any quick thoughts on what to look at? Maybe the starter  getting too hot from the header? I just drove the car to get alignment 2 weeks ago on a 60 plus mile trip with no issues.

 The starter could be having heat problems & is the  most likely cause , battery cables could be bad also make sure the contacts are clean & do nothave green death corrosion ., Tiiming could be advanced too far causing difficulty in cranking

I bet it's the timing. I've had the exact same thing happen to me on a couple cars and timing solved it every time.

Almost everything is new. I'm going to verify the timing tonight.  I might have it a touch too advanced. Sure does run strong on cool days though.

I had 2 newly rebuilt starters do the same thing to me consecutively. Purchased a 3rd from a different supplier. Problem solved. Stock 360 with minimal initial advance. So that was not an issue.
Look into the later 2000 ish "mini" starters if heat is actual issue.

Brand new mini starter.  Only about 200 miles on the car since I put it on the road. Going to mess with it tonight.

There's never a shortage of things to do everyday if your hobby is messing around with old cars. Lol

I'd try retarding the timing a few degrees, then drive it for a week and see if it happens again. No cost to you. While it could very well be the starter, I like to resist buying parts until I have more diagnostic evidence.
