2 oil pump questions.
1.  How do I tell if my oil pump is a HV or HP pump?  I bought a pump at the Indy swap meet and I don't know which it is.  The man had a whole box of brand new looking oil pumps for sale for $20 each he said that he raced and changed the oil pump after every race.  At the time, I did not know there was a high volume or and high pressure option so I did not know to ask.
2.  What are the pros and cons of one vs the other?  What application is best for HV and best for HP?
Thanks.

The HV pump has a taller gear set, which of course means a taller body.
The HP pump has a heavier pressure relief valve spring installed.
The stock pump relief was set to be around 55 psi.
The HP pump was set to be about 20 psi higher.

Does the pump have a brand and/or part number on it to google? Assuming it has not been modified its your best bet to confirm what you have.

I'm sure there are more expert folks than I but the HV & HP pumps are generally used in racing scenarios, a street car should not really need one. The HV is normally mated with a larger pan and both may require other oiling components or machine work to be effective. I would definitely confirm what you've got before using (:

This is the oil pump that I bought.

Who knows what you have...There should have been a tag on 1 of those bolts with a part number on it to identify what it is. If it was me I would be inclined to buy new so I knew what I had. I would never use a high pressure pump. Depending on what I was building I may use a high volume pump with a bigger pan....

If I had my engine books here  :Thud:
I can't recall the spec for the rotor height for HV & std .
I always use HP pumps but never use a HV without a much larger oil pan
I will see what I can find on the net ....

Melling shows overall height of
std pump / HP - 4.64
HV pump -4.99
I know the rotors were approx .250 taller on the high pressure .
I can't find a spec for the actual rotor height yet .
Looking at your picture it looks more like the HV .

Looks good on the outside but I would disassemble and inspect the rotors and case for slop or scoring. Need to find the maker to verify the factory clearances inside. An oil pump is a lot cheaper than an engine. Beware unknown parts...
