Has anyone used these heads? They look like a good head for a mild performance build. I'm wondering about the quality as they seem to be "reasonably" priced.

IIRC People seem pretty happy with them. These the parts you are looking at?

Yep, that is them.

These are the heads I will probably be going with for my 408 stroker build. I'm contemplating the MAX heads and having them redrilled for an LA intake pattern. Seeing how the good EQ heads are long gone.

You might want to take a look at ProMaxx aluminum heads (formerly Patriot heads).  I'm running them on my 440/512 stroker and I couldn't be happier.  Very impressed with the machine work quality and they are also very reasonably priced.  https://promaxxperformance.com/

I think the valve guides are cast iron, "Diamond Honed valve guides".  I remember reading a few articles suggesting upgrading to bronze.

This is a good option.  I picked up a lightly used set of the ProMaxx 171 small block heads and the finish work in the bowls as well as the valve job are much better than the Speedmaster or Edelbrock versions.
