Let's talk Driveshafts

I bought a True Track Dana 60 from Dr. Diff.

Couldn't be happier.
It could probably handle 1,000 HP I suppose.

So the weak links in the system was was I was told are the factory U joints.

The recommendation I was given was to use Big Block Chevy forged differentai input yokes.

South Bay Drive line said use the BBC input yoke and U joint.

Just wanted to hear others input if they beefed up their U joints and/or driveshaft and what they did.

May help to add how much Hp your pushing out.   There's different routes to go for different requirements.    :alan2cents:

When I ordered my Dana from Cass I upgraded to the 1350 yoke. So far so good?

I'm at somewhere between 575 and 600 I believe.

I don't know the specs on those.  But it's important to spec your yoke and u joints correct for your Hp. Strong enough to take it but weaker then your trans and diff for protection.  Cheaper to replace a u joint then a third member.

I can't find a torque capacity rating for a 7290 joint & honestly the quality of manufacture will have a huge range... But FWIW 7290 joints are bigger & beefier than the 1330 & very close to the 1350.... Unless your running slicks you'll never break them... Buy Dana Spicer 5-811X non-greasable u joints & forget about it...

Reason for non-greasable?  No drilled passages that can act as a stress point....

Found this...  1350 cap is .063 (1/16") larger OD

1350 U-joint dimensions:  1.188" cap diameter x 3.628" overall width
7290 U-joint dimensions:  1.125" cap diameter with grooves x 3.625" overall width

I used 7290/1350 and spicer u-joints.

Not one problem, but then again I don't plan on hooking up. You break crap when you hook up.

1350 stuff is easy to source and big. I've had 3 made in the last 2 years for 472, 528 and 572 Hemis, no problems. I don't like worrying about stuff like that.
