Is there a decent dual plane intake for 340 that isn't too tall?

I know the perf rpm and air gaps are great but they are also tall. I'm trying to get it to fit under a flat hood e body. One guy told me he had to cut his hood bracing to get it to fit and I'm not willing to do that. I also don't want to run a low profile air cleaner. I want to use my 70-71 factory 340 air cleaner. If I had a performance hood like most e bodies run, I'd be fine but not an option at the moment.

I saw a video comparing dimensions of the LD 340 to the rpm and the LD 340 was only 1/4" shorter so it seems that is also not the best pic.

The cam is an Isky 270 Mega so not too hot. I think the regular Performer is not up to the task. Is there something in between the Performer and Air Gap that isn't overly tall? I'm open to other brands.

The factory intake is a very good performer other then being heavy , there is a M1 Alum version that was available a few years back .
the LD340 was a great intake also

I agree, a lot of aftermarket intakes are not as good as a stock 68-73 340 intake. I ran one on my 69 with 12.5 pistons, solid lifter cam that I shifted at 7500RPM. Between the 2 different colour steel valvecovers. ratty chrome aircleaner and the stock intake I had no problem getting a street race as long as the car wasn't running. I made lots of money with that setup. You can always paint it aluminum if it will make you feel better!

The ld340 will be a gamble for me getting it under the flat hood. It's only a quarter inch shorter than the air gap but the do have the carb about 3/4" rearward which might help me avoid bracing. I guess if I bought one and it didn't fit, I'd have no trouble selling it.

From photos I've seen, it looks like the discontinued dual plane m1 is not as tall and might be a great choice but I just can't find one. So far, I can't even find a part number.

The factory iron one looks great in my opinion and that might actually be my first choice but shipping is out of the question so I'd have to wait and look for them at swaps. I'm kicking myself for selling the one that came with the 69 340 I'm looking to use.

I guess I spoke too soon. I just found a nice 69 iron intake on eBay all cleaned and ready for paint. Not cheap but a new aluminum one would have been just as pricey. The iron one looks like it belongs there. Very clean and free of all the threaded plugs the aluminum ones have.
